Li Jingxin is an elementary school student from a poor, remote village in Guangdong province.
Her family has never been able to afford to buy her a book of children's fairy tales, even though it can cost as little as 16 yuan ($2.60).
Many rural households are similar, spending only around 100 yuan a year per child on education, meaning students such as Li often know little about the outside world because of transport and economic limitations, let alone enjoy the books they might like at school.
