Eight former Atlanta public school educators were ordered on Tuesday to serve between one and seven years in prison after being convicted on racketeering charges in one of the nation's largest test-cheating scandals.
The scheme to inflate students' scores on standardized exams involved teachers, a principal and other administrators. Student achievement helped the former educators to secure promotions and cash bonuses.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter sentenced three of the educators to seven years in prison. Two were sentenced to two years in prison, and three got one year.
