Item from April 16, 1997, in China Daily: A large oil tanker docks at an oil berth in Ningbo port in Zhejiang province. The oil berth, which recently passed State-level inspection, is the largest of its kind in the country.

Coal, crude oil and natural gas production rose to 180.64 million metric tons in the first two months of the year, the State Statistics Bureau reported. Combined output was 4.2 percent above the same period in 1996.

China, as a key energy consumer, has been rolling out various measures in recent years to tap conventional and unconventional energy to guarantee energy security and diversify its energy-supply mix.
