Third-generation nuclear work approved

By Zhao Yinan | China Daily | Updated: 2015-04-16 07:48

For the first time in four years China has approved nuclear power plant construction using third-generation technology.

The decision paves the way for the country to promote its nuclear power industry in the overseas market and to prop up the sagging domestic economy.

Experts said more projects can be expected as the world's largest energy consumer speeds nuclear power expansion to meet targets of 58 gigawatts of nuclear power to be in operation and at least 30 gW under construction by 2020.
