China Daily | Updated: 2015-04-15 07:17

Item from April 15, 1993, in China Daily: Construction of the 18.1-kilometer expressway between Beijing's Capital Airport and the city proper is well ahead of schedule. The 14.5-kilometer section between Dashanzi in Chaoyang district and the airport will open in early June - three months earlier than planned.

Amid the country's rapid economic development over the past few decades, the number of inbound and outbound travelers has also soared. The capital remains a top attraction and Beijing Capital International Airport ranks as one of the world's busiest.

To meet the surging demand for air travel, Beijing is also planning to build a new airport in its southern Daxing district.
