What they say
I practiced in facial plastic surgery for 29 years, but I never performed a maxillofacial procedure because of the risks involved and the strict requirements in terms of equipment. I believe that generally the quality of plastic surgery in China is better than in South Korea. Some people have blind faith in Korean techniques, but they are unable to gain access to the country's top clinics and so they end up in unlicensed clinics.
Zhang Haiming, owner of a plastic surgery clinic in Beijing
The plastic surgery industry in China is decades old, but there are no national standards. The Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics began looking into systematic standards three years ago, and tremendous progress has been made. A set of national standards has been drawn up and is likely to be introduced soon.
