Skating star offers helping hand
Retired short-track speed skater Yang Yang, China's most decorated athlete, found time to give skating tips to another Olympic legend on Monday morning in Shanghai as they joined hands to promote a program supporting China's Special Olympics athletes.
In between helping 30 Chinese children with learning disabilities slalom around cones, move along the ice and carry soccer balls through goal posts at a rink in Shanghai's Pudong area, Yang shared tips, and a few jokes, with perhaps the world's most famous female gymnast.
"She was telling me to lean forward a little more," said Romania's Nadia Comaneci, who blazed a trail by scoring a perfect 10 at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal at the age of 14. "I think I have a little bit of balance left from my days on the balance beam, but that's it."
