Fangchenggang will support its e-commerce industry through favorable policies and by improving supervision, according to a top official at the local commerce bureau.
Last year, the city's e-commerce sector generated trade worth about 1.7 billion yuan ($270 million), a rise of 15 percent from 2013. By the end of December, the number of online retailers based in the city had reached 1,100 and they employed 10,000 people, according to the bureau.
In 2013, the Internet giant Alibaba ranked Dongxing, a county-level city administrated by Fangchenggang, first for e-commerce development among a number of similar cities in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
