Energy consumption declining in Shanghai

Shanghai aims to keep its energy consumption increment in 2015 within 4.5 million metric tons of standard coal, the city's authorities said on Thursday. Last year, the city cut its consumption per unit of GDP and carbon emissions by more than 8 percent, according to figures released at a conference on energy saving and environmental protection, with its energy consumption falling by nearly 2.7 million tons of standard coal. By the end of last year, its energy consumption per unit of GDP had fallen by more than 22 percent during the 12th Five Year Plan period (2011-15), far exceeding the original target of 18 percent, officials said.
