Debate looks at relocating institutions

By Luo Wangshu | China Daily | Updated: 2015-03-31 08:13

In a debate on universities during the two sessions earlier this month, some legislators suggested relocating universities from Beijing to less-crowded places to ease pressure on the capital and stimulate regional development through quality higher education.

Others insisted that selective universities should stay where they are.

Wu Shimin, an NPC deputy and vice-director of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, suggested that the Ningxia Hui autonomous region could attract talent by establishing high-quality universities or research institutes to boost regional development.
