Number of foreigners studying is increasing; countries in South Asia account for 28 percent

It is not uncommon for Chinese to forget Chinese characters when they write, as they are used to typing characters on a computer screen.

But a United States citizen in Chengdu, Sichuan province, is skilled at speaking and writing Chinese. She reads books written in ancient Chinese characters every day and will receive her doctorate in classical Chinese literature this year.
