Item from March 27, 1987, in China Daily: Vice-Foreign Minister Zhou Nan and Portuguese delegation head Rui Medina embrace after initialing a joint declaration on Macao yesterday.

China and Portugal initialed the joint declaration under which China will recover Macao on Dec 20, 1999.

The declaration was hailed at the current session of the National People's Congress as another example of the successful implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems", following the signing of the Sino-British joint declaration on Hong Kong.
