Toyota all-new Highlander
Toyota's all-new Highlander, made at the Japanese carmaker joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Corp, was launched on Friday. The SUV with two options of five and seven seats retails between 239,800 yuan ($39,311) and 422,800 yuan.
The Highlander has two engine options - the 2.0T D-4ST and 3.5-liter V6 - and is equipped with six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0T D-4ST is Toyota's latest engine which produces maximum power of 162kW/4800-5600rpm and offers peak torque of 350Nm/1700-4000rpm. The 2.0T Highlander has 2WD and 4WD options, and its lowest fuel consumption is 8.2 liters per 100km. The 3.5-liter Highlander generates maximum power of 201kW/6200rpm and boasts top torque of 337Nm/4700rpm. The version is 4WD with a lowest fuel consumption of 10.3 liters per 100km.
The Highlander's length, width and height are 4855mm, 1925mm and 1720mm respectively. It is 60mm longer and 15mm wider than the previous generation, which, together with its "Functional Beauty" interior design, makes the all-new Highlander much roomier. Based on the "Sleek on Strong" styling design, the SUV looks mighty, delicate and fashionable.
The all-new Highlander won a "Top Safety Pick+" rating in crash tests of the US's Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earlier this year and last year. The joint venture expects the new SUV to retain its lead in its segment in China.
