Malaysian police released on bail the daughter of jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday after a night in detention over comments in Parliament deemed "contemptuous" of the country's judiciary.
Anwar, who long posed the greatest threat to Malaysia's long-ruling coalition, is serving a five-year prison term after the country's highest court rejected his appeal last month against a conviction for sodomy.
Anwar was the ruling party's rising star in the mid-1990s before he fell out with then-prime minister Mahathir Mohamad. Anwar denied the charge that led to his second conviction for sodomy as a fabrication aimed at ending his political career.
