Bus plunges into ravine; 49 dead

At least 49 people were killed on Saturday when a tour bus plunged 400 meters into a densely wooded ravine in Campo Alegra, in the state of Catarina, southern Brazil, authorities said. Among the dead were eight children and 24 women. Fifty people were supposed to be on the bus, but the number of passengers on board was believed to be higher. The crash site was near a lookout point in the Dona Francisca mountains, a popular stop for tourists.
