Item from March 16, 1987, in China Daily: These engineers at the Dongshan Coal Mine in Shanxi province are using an advanced computer system to control coal production, transport and safety surveillance. The equipment went into operation earlier this month. The mine is the country's first to have computerized these processes.

Last month, Shanxi province, the country's largest coal producer, released its energy development road map.

It vowed to place stricter controls over production and accelerate the development of clean energy.
