ECB begins bond purchases

The European Central Bank will start purchasing euro-denominated public sector securities in the secondary market today in an unprecedented quantitative easing program to help stimulate the economy. The combined monthly purchases of public and private sector securities will amount to 60 billion euros ($65 billion), which will be carried out until the end of September 2016.
