Thousands of people gathered in central Moscow on Sunday for a march in memory of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was gunned down near the Kremlin over the weekend.

Alexander Yklin, one of the organizers, said he believed that "more than 70,000" participated, but police estimated the crowd at more than 16,000.

The demonstrators carried placards, including "He died for Russia's future." Another 2,500to 3,000 people marched in St. Petersburg.
