Environmental minister named

Chen Jining, the former head of Tsinghua University, was appointed as the new minister of environmental protection by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Friday. The previous minister, Zhou Shengxian, 66, had reached retirement age. Chen, 50, became president of the university in 2012 and was a professor at the school of environment.
