County rocked by magnitude-5 quake

An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale hit Shawan county in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region at 2:42 pm on Sunday, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported. The epicenter was reported at a depth of 4 km, according to the center. There were no reports of casualties or damage to property, the county government said. Three rescue vehicles were sent to the scene and the authorities were assessing the impact of the quake.
