Trans-Pacific optical cable project approved
The National Development and Reform Commission revealed on Wednesday that it approved a new underwater trans-Pacific optical cable project in December. The project is jointly financed by China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile as well as other domestic and foreign companies. The total length of the project will be 13,618 kilometers and the cable is expected to be operational by 2018. With a capacity of 60 tera-byte per second, the project aims to fulfill the demand of growing communications businesses between China and the United States.
