Reporter gets 5 years for bribes

Zhang Xiaojun, a former reporter and editor at Xinhua News Agency, was recently sentenced to five years in prison and banned from news reporting. Taking advantage of his position, Zhang took more than 50,000 yuan ($8,000) in bribes given by D&S Consulting between 2008 and 2010. China's media watchdog on Thursday published four cases in which media outlets or journalists were writing paid news, including Zhang's case.
