Govt 'hurt' by diplomat's criticism

By Associated Press in Bangkok | China Daily | Updated: 2015-01-29 07:59

Thailand's military government summoned the United States charge d'affairs for talks on Wednesday after a US diplomat called for an end to martial law and said the impeachment of a former prime minister could be politically motivated.

Daniel Russel, the US assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, made the comments during a university speech in Bangkok on Monday.

Coup leader-turned-Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said he was saddened by the remarks, adding, "the US does not understand the way we work".
