Dalian has 2.19 million rural residents, accounting for 30 percent of the total population. The 3,606 square kilometers of farmland takes up 70 percent of the total area of the city.
The city's urban-rural income ratio was 1.71:1 at the end of 2013, compared with the national ratio of 3.3:1.
In 2013, the city's output of agricultural products stood at 47.8 billion yuan ($7.8 billion). The average per capita net income of rural residents was 17,717 yuan, of which 46 percent came from agriculture-related activities and 44 percent from salary.
