Power outage plunges nation into darkness

Most of Pakistan was plunged into darkness after the breakdown of a key power transmission line in the southern part of the nation on Sunday, another reminder of the country's energy crisis.

The power failure, one of the worst the country has experienced, caused power to be cut in major cities, including the capital Islamabad.

The blackout began when a 500 kilovolt-ampere transmission line carrying electricity from the Hubco Power Plant to the national grid tripped.
