Health authorities committed 11.5 million pounds ($17.4 million) on Monday for a plan to tackle Britain's persistent tuberculosis problem, seeking to wipe the contagious lung disease out altogether.
Britain has one of the highest TB rates in western Europe, and London is known as a hot spot for the disease.
The TB rate in the United Kingdom is nearly five times the rate in the United States. If current trends continue, England will have more TB cases than the entire US two years from now.
