Former Nanjing mayor stands trial for bribery

Ji Jianye, former mayor of Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province, went on trial on Friday for allegedly receiving bribes of 11.32 million yuan ($1.82 million).

He was tried at Yantai Intermediate People's Court in Shandong province. A verdict will be announced later.

According to the Yantai procuratorate, Ji took the bribes from 1999 to 2012, directly or through relatives and friends, from seven people and organizations in exchange for his help in obtaining construction project contracts and job transfers.
