Beijing lawyer Li Jinsong has asked local authorities in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, to clarify why the police deleted videos in onlookers' cell phones which recorded a policeman allegedly beating and killing a female migrant worker protesting against delayed wages last month.

"The police cannot take private property and these videos are not illegal. If no one responds in 15 days, I'll file a lawsuit."
