Billionaire's sentence shines light on problem

After a former billionaire was sentenced to 20 years in prison for offering bribes to a former railways minister to obtain business illegally, collusion between government officials and businesses has become apparent.

Ding Yuxin, the former chairwoman of Boyou Investment Management, was sentenced to 20 year's imprisonment for illegal business operation and giving bribes, at Beijing No 2 Intermediate People's Court on Dec 16.

Ding, 59, from Shanxi province and whose original name is Ding Shumiao, was also fined 2.5 billion yuan ($403 million). Personal property worth 20 million yuan was also confiscated.
