Travel: Families gave names to village
Huangyao is in the northeast of Zhaoping, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, by the lower reaches of the Lijiang River, and 200 kilometers from Guilin. The name Huangyao comes from the family names of the town's people, mainly Huang and Yao. It is known as a mini-Guilin as, like that city, it has the distinctive type of scenic landscape known as karst topography, covering an area of 3.6 square kilometers. Huangyao is on the list of China's top 10 historical ancient villages.
