Student's death sentence upheld

By Wang Hongyi in Shanghai | China Daily | Updated: 2015-01-09 09:54

The Shanghai High People's Court has upheld the death sentence of a former medical student who was convicted of killing his roommate with poison in April 2013.

The court announced its ruling on Thursday morning, rejecting the appeal of Lin Senhao, 28, a postgraduate student at Fudan University's School of Medicine, after a second trial on Dec 8. The death penalty is subject to review by the Supreme People's Court.

On March 31, 2013, Lin spiked the water in a dispenser at his dormitory with the chemical N-Nitro-sodimethylamine, which was taken from a university lab. When ingested, the substance attacks the internal organs, especially the liver, and can be deadly. His roommate, Huang Yang, became sick after drinking the water on April 1 and died of organ failure 15 days later.
