By Xinhua | China Daily | Updated: 2015-01-06 07:45

Former Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian has been granted one-month medical parole after serving more than six ears in prison for corruption, the Taiwan authority announced on Monday.

Chen is due to be released from Taichung Prison on Monday afternoon but will continue his sentence once his condition has stabilized, the judicial authority said at a news conference.

The authority approved his request for release during a review hearing, which started at 9 am on Monday, as it deemed that Chen cannot receive proper treatment while incarcerated.
