2014 opened with the Seattle Seahawks capping the NFL season by whipping the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl, then segued into the most expensive Olympics in history - the $50 billion Sochi Winter Games. Soccer's World Cup, the rise of a new generation of tennis superstars and collegiate sports also garnered headlines before the San Francisco Giants vanquished the upstart Kansas City Royals in seven games in the World Series. All in all, a wild ride for sports fans.
