Zhanjiang mayor wishes 'HAPPI New Year!'

By Tom Clifford in Zhanjiang, Guangdong | China Daily | Updated: 2015-01-01 07:52

"Happy New Year!" is commonly heard at this time of year, but Zhanjiang Mayor Wang Zhongbing had a slightly different interpretation as he greeted visitors to the launch of the city's English language website - en.zhanjiang.gov.cn.

"Of course I hope we all have a wonderful new year but my version of happy is spelt HAPPI," he said.

The acronym stands for Harbor, Amazing, Petrochemical, Papermaking and Iron-steel, and it neatly encapsulates the city's rapid development.
