As the largest court of its kind in China, Haicang District Cross-Straits Court in Xiamen, Fujian province, has taken a number of innovative steps to provide a better service for people from Taiwan involved in disputes.

To ensure the trial and sentencing are seen to be fair and impartial, and providing both parties agree, the court is open to the public.

"When the cases are related to privacy or business secrets, we will respect the clients' wishes and won't allow public access," Cao Fagui, a judge, said.
