China Mobile, CCTV team up for 4G video media venture
Telecoms company China Mobile and State-owned broadcaster China Central Television signed an agreement on Wednesday to jointly construct a 4G video communications center and for starting 4G video business. Xi Guohua, board chairman of China Mobile, said that CCTV, which owns the most abundant content resources in China and China Mobile's huge 4G network will come together to create China's largest new media communications platform. Xi said that by 2016, the 4G video communications center will create over 5,000 jobs for the upstream and downstream industry chain and boost the industrial scale to tens of billions of yuan. The two sides will jointly develop mobile devices as well as derivative applications for mobile videos, and launch more in-depth collaboration in the animation, mobile reading, mobile music and other 4G services in the future.
