Province, South Korea agree on joint research

The Jilin Provincial Archives signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday with a foundation from South Korea to work together on the study of "comfort women" during Japanese imperialism in World War II, Xinhua News Agency reported. The archives and its South Korean counterpart, the Northeast Asian History Foundation, have agreed to jointly hold seminars and conduct exchanges of researchers to "find the truth of history". "The comfort women issue is human rights abuse," the agreement said. During World War II, thousands of East Asian women were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese army. The exact number of comfort women is still being debated and researched.
