Students turn to judo for self-defense

By Qi Xin in Zhengzhou | China Daily | Updated: 2014-12-13 08:03

An increasing number of female students at Zhengzhou University in Henan province are taking judo as an elective.

Judo has become increasingly popular because female students have become worried after hearing news of their peers being raped and murdered in recent years.

The Beijing-based Legal Evening News said that at least 19 young women disappeared nationwide from August through September. Seven were found, but six were sexually assaulted, murdered, or both.
