Academics given senior govt roles

Eight leading academics are to take up posts as senior officials in major government departments and a State-owned enterprise in Beijing this month.

The latest effort by the municipal government to inject additional expertise into its decision-making processes was welcomed by experts.

The academics, none of whom is a member of the Communist Party of China, include three members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professors at top universities and other institutions.
