Australians say Cotterell can't be in Sun's corner

By Xinhua in Canberra | China Daily | Updated: 2014-12-12 07:57

Denis Cotterell, the Australian swimming coach who has been instructing Sun Yang, confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday that he has been told by Swimming Australia (SA) he will no longer be allowed to work with China's Olympic champion.

Via e-mail, Cotterell said that because his Miami Swimming Club has been selected and classified as one of SA's Podium Performance Centers, he was "compelled to abide by their policies and therefore obliged to follow their direction in relation to coaching Sun Yang."

The Podium Center Program (PCP), launched in 2013 after an unsatisfactory performance by Australian swimmers at the 2012 London Olympics, provides support for the nation's elite swimmers and coaches.
