By Kahon Chan, Shadow Li and Luis Liu in Hong Kong | China Daily | Updated: 2014-12-12 07:44

After 75 days of occupation by protesters, a section of a 10-lane thoroughfare in central Hong Kong was fully reopened to traffic after9pm on Thursday.

The cleanup operations took seven hours.

Participants in the illegal assembly had been given about two days to retreat before the area was cleared by force. Top local officials renewed the plea one day ahead of the operation, urging protesters to refrain from violence. The preparedness paid off on Thursday.
