Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers vowed his team would redouble its efforts to secure a return to the Champions League after it was knocked out of the competition by Basel on Tuesday.
Steven Gerrard's 81st-minute free kick earned Liverpool a 1-1 draw with the Swiss champion at a drizzly Anfield pitch, but it was the visiting side that progressed to the last 16 alongside group winner Real Madrid.
Liverpool was making its return to the competition after a five-year absence, and with six points separating it from the Premier League's top four ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester United, Rodgers said his side must improve if it is to earn a place in next season's competition.
