Jaguar Land Rover offers gift of sight

By China Daily | China Daily | Updated: 2014-12-10 07:25

Zhao Binghong, a 14-year boy from rural Luxi county, in Yunnan province, has had his eyesight improved thanks to the charity program "Land Rover Never Stop Caring - Journey for Vision Program", which is dedicated to providing a healthier future for underprivileged children.

Echoing what the auto brand calls its "spirit of discovery and exploration", Journey for Vision plans to provide free professional medical services to children in remote areas over the next three years, as well as offering training for local doctors and funding for improved medical equipment.

Backed by the health authorities in Yunnan and supported by Beijing Tongren Hospital and seven local hospitals, the initiative kicked off on Nov 27 with a fleet of Land Rovers transporting optical care professionals to five rural areas, where around 30,000 children are being examined. Spectacles will be given to 3,000 children, with corrective surgery and other treatments expected to be carried out on another 600.
