Pakistan
Top al-Qaida militant killed
Pakistani soldiers killed a top al-Qaida operative on Saturday who was indicted in the United States for his alleged involvement in a plot to bomb New York's subway system, the military said in a statement. The death of Adnan Shukrijumah is the latest blow to the terror organization still reeling from the 2011 killing of leader Osama bin Laden and now largely eclipsed by the militant Islamic State group.

A taxi driver allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman in New Delhi, the Indian capital, before threatening to kill her if she alerted police, local media reported on Sunday. The woman, an executive for a finance company, dozed off in the taxi as she was returning home from dinner with friends on Friday night, reports said.
Uruguay
6 Guantanamo prisoners moved
Six prisoners from Guantanamo Bay have been transferred to Uruguay, the US government said on Sunday, announcing a resettlement deal that had been delayed for months by security concerns in the Pentagon. The six are the first prisoners transferred to South America from the US base in Cuba, part of a flurry of recent releases amid a renewed push by President Barack Obama to close the prison.
Canada
Bird flu closes fifth farm
Seven countries have imposed trade restrictions on Canadian poultry as a fifth farm in British Columbia's Fraser Valley was put under quarantine for avian influenza, officials said on Saturday. More than 140,000 turkeys and chickens from the affected farms will be euthanized.
