6.8-7.1 magnitude earthquake struck an area in what is now Henan province between 1500 and 1260 BC, apparently the earliest known tremor in China's history, according to Xinhua News Agency.China did not start keeping seismological records until 843 BC, during the Western Zhou Dynasty (c.11th century-771BC).
