Old, new balance sought

By Shi Jing in Shanghai | China Daily | Updated: 2014-11-24 07:50

Faced with an increasing number of elderly people in the country, the Chinese job market is striving to strike a balance between an aging workforce and its new entrants.

China's aging population, which refers to the group of people age 60 or above, is growing by 7 million every year, according to the China Report on the Development of the Silver Hair Industry released by the National Working Commission on Aging in late September.

The growth rate is expected to peak between the years 2022 and 2030, when the annual increase in the number of elderly people reaches 12.6 million.
