Don't accept money for stories, journalists told

The All-China Journalists Association has told writers and editors that they should not cover stories in exchange for money. All journalists should abide by the profession's ethics and ensure the truthfulness of reports to safeguard the reputation of writers and the media's credibility, it said in a statement issued on Sunday. The association gave details of three violations. In one case, West Times reporter Li Jing fabricated news about land compensation graft in Gansu province in 2007. Li extorted 130,000 yuan ($21,225) from the government by threatening to publish the claims, according to the association.
