A Chinese toy maker in Linyi, Shandong province, was exposed by China Central Television on Tuesday for having dibutyl phthalate, DBP, a type of plasticizer, in most of its products at a level 368 times above the maximum safety level set by the European Union. The chemical can cause sexual precocity in children as well as kidney and liver damage. But so far, China has not set a safety limit for toy products.
