"Just imagine if the $1 trillion is not in the hands of corrupt people, how many things it can be used on and how much in economic returns it can bring about."
Zhang Jun, head of the international economy department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a news briefing in Beijing on Thursday. He cited statistics from the World Bank that bribery worldwide costs businesses roughly $1 trillion every year. He said it's a consensus of the G20 members to put the anti-corruption issue on the agenda of the summit that will be held in Brisbane, Australia, this weekend.
