21 miners missing since August confirmed dead
The search for 21 miners trapped in a collapsed mine in Huainan ended as all the missing were confirmed dead, authorities said. An explosion ripped through the Dongfang Coal Mine on Aug 19, and 39 workers were caught in mine shafts hundreds of meters underground. Twelve managed to escape. By Aug 29, six bodies had been found and 21 remained missing. The mine was operating illegally when the accident occurred.
